Groupthink is a helpful topic for this synthesis section. A google search on "groupthink" yields helpful presentations of the concept. Groupthink is a harmful phenomenon that occurs when groups of people make decisions. This effect may occur more often with small groups and with CSCW than with large groups or use of conventional F2F meetings or voting. (This is a hypothesis; what theory or data support or argue against it?) Supporting references for learning:

Quiz "2" answers: (1) Comprehension during idea generation; analysis during filtering; synthesis during solution finding; evaluation during implementation and feedback. (2) Participation increases: gains due to less intimidation and asynchronous, dispersed options. Some loss due to reluctance to use IT interface rather than F2F. Input is also increased because of more air time, less attenuation blocking, less intimidation, ... Stimulation may decrease due to less focus, less F2F energy, less eustress (good stress). Losses occur with less input and fewer options for gaining input. Interaction may decrease if there is less reading of other input or information overload. Interaction may have gains and losses: gains from more flexible participation with less intimidation; losses from wider bandwidth (more expressive communication) in F2F.
